Quality Technician

Purpose

Responsible for inspecting and monitoring parts to ensure good quality parts are produced. Lead and or support area in continuous improvement efforts. Ensure quality products are delivered to customers and address customer concerns and issues. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Set-up and check dimensions on parts, using metrology instruments, to ensure parts meet quality standards and that dimensions are accurate
2. Audit Control Plans and FMEA’s
3. Assist in the development, distribution and implementation of Quality Alerts
4. Perform acid etch and mag particle tests on prescribed basis
5. Lead a group of employees, oversee work activities and engage in various forms of communication and judgment.
6. Train employees in proper procedures and job skills.
7. Enter data into the computer from paper documents for record keeping purposes
8. Check, sort, and file paperwork
9. Red tag and create repair orders for non-conforming parts
10. Interface with the Quality Manager to address quality issues
11. Resolve customer issues at the customer level
12. Ability to act as liaison between the company and the customer
13. Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEA’s and 8D’s
14. Monitor first & last piece approvals for conformance
15. Perform gage studies and capability studies
16. Problem solving.
17. Continuous improvement activities support Red X / DOE activities
18. Various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

1. High School diploma or equivalent required with completion of established curriculum and/or demonstrated understanding of skills.
2. Two – Four years of quality experience

Competencies

1. Ability to follow established procedures
2. Strong attention to detail
3. Knowledge Statistical Process Control (SPC); GD&T with application and blueprint reading.
4. Must be able to operate basic metrology instruments, optical comparator, hardness tester and Coordinate Measurement Machine.
5. Calibration of equipment gages.
6. Knowledge of welding specifications
7. Problem Solving
8. Perform sorts, audits or rework products
9. Knowledge of product and processes
10. Knowledge of Quality standards – AIAG/ASQC, ASME, AITF16949
11. Communication skills to communicate and interact with all levels of employees, customers and suppliers
12. Computer skills and math skills sufficient to perform department related tasks as required
13. Ability to work effectively with people

Licensure

Valid driver’s license

Supervisory Responsibility

This position leads a group of quality inspectors and/or rework activities and is responsible for the performance management within that group.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a manufacturing environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires very frequent visual effort and concentration, and the ability to move throughout the plant. The employee must lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The work requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting and a variety of physical activities. Travel to customer locations as needed.

Available Shifts

Monday - Friday (some weekend overtime)

1st shift - 6:00am - 2:30pm

2nd shift - 4:30pm - 1:00am
