Key Job Details – Kalamazoo Nursing Jobs

• Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan (49007)
• Healthcare Setting: Medical Surgical Unit (20-6650 Med Surg - GSU)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (September 22, 2025 – December 22, 2025)
• Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights (19:00 – 07:30), 3 shifts per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1840–$1890
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Float Requirement: May float to other Med/Surg units, ICU, or ED waiting areas
• Orientation: 12 hours (includes 8 hours of modules)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1.5 years of recent Med/Surg or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Strong post-surgical nursing competencies
• Flu vaccination required (medical exemptions accepted with documentation)
• Professional references required
• First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a busy Medical Surgical Unit
• Monitor and manage post-surgical patients, including general surgery, gynecological, and medical overflow cases
• Perform and manage clinical skills such as:
• Telemetry monitoring
• Colostomy and feeding tube care
• Pre/Post hemodialysis management
• Accessing ports, blood product administration, peripheral/PICC line care
• IV starts, heparin, insulin, and PCA administration
• Management of surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), high flow nasal cannula
• Non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen therapy
• Tracheostomy management and wound care (including wound vac)
• Strict adherence to isolation precautions

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, etc.)
• Float to other nursing units as needed to support patient care
• Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR
