️ Senior Project Manager - Commercial Architecture | Grand Rapids, MI

About the Opportunity:

A top-rated Grand Rapids-based architecture firm is seeking a highly experienced and driven Senior Project Manager to lead and manage complex, large-scale commercial architecture projects from concept through construction. This is a pivotal leadership role within the firm, offering the opportunity to deliver cutting-edge architectural solutions while mentoring teams and fostering client relationships.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, expert communicator, and seasoned project leader , capable of managing multiple architectural projects across sectors including urban design, public spaces, residential developments, and commercial buildings . You will guide projects through all phases—from schematic design to construction administration—ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery.

Team members work in-office Monday–Thursday to support collaborative design and mentorship, with remote flexibility on Fridays .

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Delivery

• Manage all phases of medium to large-scale commercial architecture projects.
• Serve as the primary client liaison, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction.
• Lead internal teams and coordinate with consultants and contractors.
• Develop and manage detailed project budgets , schedules , and resourcing plans .
• Ensure projects align with scope, design intent, and quality standards.
• Implement quality assurance protocols including design reviews and budget checks.
• Approve pay applications, change orders, and consultant invoices.
• Lead project meetings, manage documentation, and maintain thorough communication records.
• Collaborate with firm leaders to negotiate client and consultant contracts.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Act as group leader for a team of architectural professionals.
• Provide mentorship, performance evaluations, and career development guidance.
• Foster a collaborative culture aligned with the firm’s mission and core values.
• Recognize team accomplishments and offer constructive feedback.

Project Management Discipline Lead

• Serve as an internal project management thought leader , improving firm-wide PM practices.
• Develop and implement tools, templates, and processes that enhance project delivery.
• Stay current on architecture project management trends and apply best practices.
• Contribute to strategic planning and help shape quarterly and annual firm objectives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in architectural project management.
• Proven track record leading commercial architecture projects from design through construction.
• Licensed Architect preferred but not required.
• Exceptional project management , team leadership , and client communication skills.
• Strong background in stakeholder engagement and collaborative problem-solving.
• Skilled in managing multiple priorities while upholding design quality and performance.
• Proficiency in architecture and project management tools such as:
• Revit , Bluebeam , Deltek/ERP systems , Procore , Microsoft Project or similar.
• Deep understanding of the architectural design process , building systems, and construction administration.
• Commitment to design excellence , client service , and sustainable practices.
