Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that steel products processed at the facility meet specified quality standards and customer requirements. This role involves conducting inspections, testing materials, monitoring production processes, and documenting results to maintain compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality policies.

 

Core Activities:

 

    1. In Process Inspection and Reports:

i. Perform first/last hit inspection. When not available the operator / supervisor will step in.

ii. 100% visual inspection of all material at the Inspection Stand.

    1. Report findings during inspection:

i. Report to the Press Operator all defects that are being rejected, and for what reasons.

ii. Report to the supervisor any defects that would cause a coil to be rejected.

    1. Reports:

i. All hold for inspection or rework material.

ii. Provide samples and photographs and put into MIS.

iii. Communicate quality issues to management and supervisors

    1. Gamma Reports:

i. File charts and histograms.

    1. Additional Functions:

i. Assist Piler Operators between coils.

ii. Weekly cleaning of all gauges and fixtures.

iii. Ensure proper function of measurement equipment.

iv. Assist Press Operators when needed or requested.

v. Provide a detailed pass down to the next quality Inspector.

vi. Complete projects as assigned.

    1. Has the authority to stop production if necessary to correct quality or safety problems.

g. Aid in disposition of material (hold for rework, claim, hold for re-inspection).

    1. Institute rework process.
    2. Dock audits
    3. Modify or create BQIR’S and RSP’S
    4. Make visual aids for the plant.
    5. Internal audits for ISO14001 and IATF16949 report findings to Quality manager.
    6. Complete all daily checklists.
    7. Collect Data for SPC.
    8. Creation of quality alerts and training.
    9. Adhere to safety protocols while performing duties.

 

  1. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

    1. Ability to adhere to general office procedures (i.e. protocol, professionalism, punctuality, etc.).
    2. Ability to operate office equipment (i.e. computer system, telephone, copier, facsimile, etc.).
    3. Ability to use/operate appropriate measurement equipment to verify material meets customer requirements.
    4. Ability to interface and communicate with others (internally and externally)
    5. Must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule to coincide with just in time manufacturing.
    6. Must possess the knowledge of the making of steel as well as the ability to identify the various types of steel.
    7. Must have 20/20 vision or corrective lenses to 20/20 sight.
    8. Must have strong mathematical skills.
    9. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint?
    10. Must be able to read a tape measure
    11. Must be able to read a caliper
    12. Must be able to read a micrometer.

    1. High School Diploma or GED
    2. Steel inspection background
    3. Manufacturing background
    4. Heavy equipment background
    5. Statistical Process Control (SPC) background.

    1. Basic Orientation
    2. Occupational Noise Exposure
    3. Powered Industrial Truck Training
    4. QS Document Training
