Fire Protection Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a qualified Fire Protection Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience to support design review, code compliance, and quality assurance for U.S.-based projects.
This role will be responsible for reviewing fire alarm and fire protection systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes, client requirements, and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of U.S. fire protection codes and standards, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred.
Essential Job Functions
Review and verify fire alarm and fire protection system specifications, including manufacturer requirements and equipment details.
Evaluate design drawings for compliance with applicable local codes and standards, including IFC and NFPA requirements.
Review related-discipline design standards to ensure proper interlocks and system integration with other disciplines.
Coordinate and review specialized drawings and systems, including:
Fire extinguishers
Hazardous Material Information System (HMIS)
HVAC/mechanical interlock systems
Review fire alarm drawings and systems, including:
Aspirating Smoke Detection Systems (ASD)
Fire alarm systems
Emergency Responder Radio Communication Systems (ERRCS)
Review fire protection drawings and systems, including:
Sprinkler systems
Fire Hose Valves (FHV)
Firefighter Air Replenishment Systems (FARS)
Conduct thorough peer reviews of design documents and architectural packages to support overall project quality.
Provide a professional engineering stamp/seal for fire protection design drawings and compliance documentation, when licensed and required.
Review and approve contractor-submitted technical documents, shop drawings, and product submittals.
Respond to and resolve client Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical inquiries.
Identify and resolve regulatory, permitting, and jurisdictional compliance issues.
Prepare and review technical data, engineering reports, and other project documentation.
Participate in coordination and alignment meetings with clients, general contractors, design consultants, and other project stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance and engineering input throughout the project lifecycle.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or a related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in fire protection engineering and design review.
Strong, current knowledge of U.S. national and local building and fire codes, including IFC and NFPA standards.
Strong understanding of fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Ability to obtain or maintain professional engineering registration in the applicable state is highly preferred.
Korean language proficiency is preferred.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with large-scale industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or high-tech facilities.
Experience reviewing complex fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
Experience with contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical documentation.
Ability to stamp/seal fire protection design drawings in the applicable U.S. state.
Experience coordinating fire protection systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
