Job Summary

The Program Manager provides administrative and operational leadership for the University of Michigan Radiation Oncology community practice program. This role serves as a key liaison between academic leadership, community site leaders, joint venture partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent, high-quality clinical operations across a geographically distributed practice.

The Program Manager is responsible for managing physician practice coverage requests and coordinating clinical coverage across sites, supporting operational change initiatives, partnering in financial stewardship, assisting with faculty credentialling and payor enrollment, and establishing performance metrics that promote quality, efficiency, and an exceptional patient experience. This position requires a highly collaborative leader who can build strong relationships, navigate complex healthcare environments, and proactively identify and resolve operational challenges.

This position reports to the Chief Department Administrator with additional direction from the Associate Chair of Community Practices.

This position will be hybrid in nature and will require periodic travel to University of Michigan Radiation Oncology community practice locations across the state of Michigan.

Responsibilities*

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with site-based clinical and administrative leaders; remain informed of local practice activities, needs, and challenges.
  • Manage physician coverage requests and coordinate clinical practice coverage across community sites to ensure continuity of care and operational stability.
  • Support and lead change management initiatives, including communication planning, staff engagement, training, and adoption of new workflows, systems, and processes.
  • Identify operational risks, barriers, and improvement opportunities; develop and implement mitigation and performance improvement strategies.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to ensure programs align with evidence-based care standards and operational best practices.
  • Partner with joint venture practices in the management of program budgets; monitor expenditures and promote cost-effective use of resources.
  • Work closely with the Academic Medical Center (AMC) Finance team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments for clinical services provided.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on program metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, efficiency, patient experience, and compliance.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement across physicians, administrators, operational teams, and external partners regarding practice initiatives and priorities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners including clinical operations, IT, finance, physics, revenue cycle (for joint venture sites), compliance, and administrative teams to support practice initiatives.

Required Qualifications*

  • 3+ years of Radiation Oncology clinical operations experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple stakeholders and departments in complex healthcare environments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with budget monitoring and financial coordination in a healthcare setting.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with performance metrics, quality improvement, and change management methodologies.
  • Experience working with joint venture or partner organizations.
