Long-term substitute

Are you a Montessori leader with a thirst for social justice and a passion for grassroots, community-focused work? Grove Montessori in Grand Rapids, Michigan, seeks a long-term substitute to join our team for 4-8 weeks.

Who We Are

Grove Montessori is a 1st-4th grade Montessori microschool in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Grove Montessori opened Fall 2025 and currently serves a classroom of 30 students with two teacher leaders and an assistant.

Our Network

Grove Montessori is part of , a network of one to two room, teacher-led, authentic Montessori learning environments serving children from infancy through high school. The Wildflower model combines time-tested Montessori methods with promising new practices in family partnership, teacher empowerment, and embracing equity.

Your Role

In collaboration with Anisa Everett, founding Teacher Leader of Grove Montessori, the responsibilities of the long-term substitute include, but are not limited to:

• Co-teaching children ages 6-12 using authentic Montessori methods infused with anti-bias, anti-racist practice
• Assisting with classroom management
• Building relationships with students and supporting their development of social-emotional and academic skills

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

• School teaching or subbing experience at the elementary level preferred
• Experience teaching or subbing in Montessori classrooms
• Special education certification and/or experience successfully administering individualized accommodations preferred, not required
• Experience with a diverse student and parent population
• Familiarity with the Southeast neighborhood (49507 zipcode)

Hours & Benefits

This is a full-time position from 8am - 4pm, paid hourly at $24 an hour

Physical Requirements

The role requires the ability to move around the classroom and outdoor areas, engage with students at their level (including sitting on the floor and getting up frequently), and lift materials up to 30 pounds. Clear vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are necessary to interact with and supervise students safely.
