Job Description
We are seeking an ASE-certified Heavy Duty Truck Technician to support a private fleet of Class 7–8 tractors, trailers, refrigerated units, dollies, and leased equipment. This diagnostics-focused role operates independently from a fully equipped mobile service van, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, DOT inspections, and light-to-moderate repairs to keep equipment safe, compliant, and road-ready. Major repairs, including engine overhauls and transmission rebuilds, are routed to approved outside vendors; this position is responsible for accurate diagnosis, in-house repairs when appropriate, and clear documentation for vendor follow-up and cost tracking.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerform preventive maintenance inspections (PMs) and keep fleet equipment DOT-compliant and road-ready.

Brakes (air brake systems)
Suspension
Perform minor engine repairs (no major engine or overhaul work).
Perform minor repairs on leased equipment (e.g., lighting) in addition to owned units.
Work independently and coordinate directly with drivers, dispatch, and outside repair vendors to keep equipment moving and minimize downtime.
Diagnose faults using standard hand tools, meters, gauges, and manual inspection.
Clearly document diagnoses and flag repairs that must be routed to outside vendors, with enough detail for the vendor and for cost tracking.
Complete accurate repair orders, parts usage, and labor time in the fleet maintenance system.
Conduct and document DOT inspections; ensure all work meets FMCSA and DOT compliance standards.
Communicate additional needed repairs to the supervisor before proceeding.
Operate a company-provided mobile service van; travel to yards, terminals, and roadside locations to perform work.
Maintain the service van, its tools, and parts inventory in a clean, safe, and organized condition in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Respond to on-road breakdowns and road calls as needed.
ASE certification preferred — at minimum ASE Medium/Heavy Truck (T-series); relevant certifications in T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension & Steering), T6 (Electrical/Electronic), and T7 (HVAC) strongly preferred.
CDL Class A required
3+ years of hands-on experience servicing Class 7–8 heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
Strong diagnostic ability across steering, electrical, HVAC, drivetrain, brake, and suspension systems.
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations and inspection requirements.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and OEM service manuals.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required to operate the service van).

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Work performed on-site from a mobile service van — at yards, terminals, and roadside locations — outdoors in varying weather conditions. No fixed shop.
Exposure to noise, fumes, and mechanical hazards typical of field-based truck maintenance.
Evening shift; occasional overtime or on-call availability based on fleet needs.
Hourly wage up $32-$36/hour, based on experience and certifications.
Evening shift schedule with overtime or on-call opportunities based on fleet needs.

Competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
401(k) retirement plan with company match.
