Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining a clean and safe food production environment across multiple shifts in a refrigerated facility that produces hummus and salsa. As a sanitation worker on third shift, you will clean and sanitize processing rooms and equipment to support consistent, high-quality food production while following strict hygiene and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Clean processing rooms, including walls, doors, ceilings, carts, tables, and drains, to maintain a sanitary food production environment.
- Remove any packaging materials or food items left in the production area to prevent contamination and ensure a clutter-free workspace.
- Pre-rinse equipment and items with water using a hose to remove food residue before applying cleaning products.
- Apply soap to equipment and surfaces using a mobile foaming unit, ensuring full coverage in accordance with sanitation procedures.
- Scrub equipment and surfaces using the appropriate color-coded brushes to comply with hygiene and cross-contamination prevention standards.
- Rinse away all soap residue using a water hose to ensure equipment and surfaces are free of cleaning chemicals.
- Inspect items and areas for cleanliness after washing and re-clean as necessary to meet sanitation standards.
- Sanitize equipment and surfaces using a central sanitizer hose to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
- Perform general janitorial duties such as mopping floors, cleaning drains, and maintaining common areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment and work areas to verify cleanliness and report any issues or maintenance needs.
- Support environmental services tasks as needed to maintain a safe and hygienic facility.
- Follow all safety, hygiene, and quality procedures while working around mechanical equipment and production machinery.
- Work consistently on third shift and adapt to a cold, refrigerated environment while wearing full personal protective equipment.
- Experience in a janitorial or housekeeping role, preferably in an industrial or production environment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs to handle equipment, tools, and cleaning tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to stand on your feet for 8 hours and perform repetitive cleaning tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with inspection, mopping, and general janitorial duties in a facility setting.
- Comfort working in a food and beverage environment with strict sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Reliability and consistent attendance, with dependable transportation to support a set shift schedule.
- Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures and use color-coded tools to prevent cross-contamination.
- Capability to use hoses, foaming units, and sanitizing systems safely and effectively.
- Background in food and beverage production is a plus, though experience in other industrial or automotive environments is also valuable.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers that operate on pneumatics and hydraulics, including valves and hoses.
- Experience with environmental services or facility maintenance tasks.
- Comfort working around mechanical and machine operating processes, including weight checks and basic mechanical awareness.
- Willingness to work mandatory Saturdays and potential Sunday shifts as production needs require.

Work Environment
The role is based in a food and beverage production facility where hummus and salsa are manufactured, with most production areas kept cold due to refrigerated conditions. Sanitation workers operate primarily on third shift but may support other shifts as needed, with standard shift options of 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with Saturdays mandatory and the potential for Sunday work depending on production demands. The environment includes processing rooms, mechanical equipment, and industrial cleaning systems such as hoses, mobile foaming units, and central sanitizer lines. Team members must be comfortable fully suiting up in appropriate personal protective equipment, including lab coats, hair nets, beard nets, and other required PPE, while working in cold, refrigerated spaces and around active production equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.50 - $16.50/hr.
