Position Overview
A nationally recognized labor and employment law firm with more than 1,000 attorneys across major U.S. markets is seeking an Employment Litigation Of Counsel to join its Detroit office. The firm is consistently ranked in the First Tier nationally for Labor & Employment Litigation and Management-side Employment & Labor Law.
The ideal candidate will have significant first-chair litigation experience, a strong command of employment law, and the ability to supervise junior team members. This position offers a high level of responsibility, collaboration with national teams, and opportunities to work on complex employment litigation matters, including class and collective actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Defend and litigate a wide range of employment-related claims and agency charges
- Represent employers in court, arbitration, administrative proceedings, and mediations
- Handle matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, employment torts, contract disputes, and non-compete litigation
- Manage class and collective actions (experience preferred but not required)
- Advise and counsel employers on federal and Michigan employment law issues
- Conduct training for employers on workplace compliance, risk mitigation, and employee relations
- Supervise and mentor associates and paralegals, providing guidance and feedback
- Lead strategic case planning, client communication, and litigation management
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- 9+ years of employment litigation experience, with substantial first-chair responsibilities
- Michigan Bar admission in good standing
- Experience supervising associate and paralegal work
- Strong understanding of state and federal agency procedures
- Excellent written, analytical, and oral advocacy skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to professionalism, collegiality, and teamwork
