Traveling HBM / VTL Machinist Opportunities Nationwide
FlexTrades is seeking experienced Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) and Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) Machinists for manufacturing projects across the United States. These positions support industries including aerospace, power generation, heavy equipment, defense, mining, and industrial manufacturing.
All work is performed in a clean, indoor manufacturing environment.
Pay & Schedule
- $40-$45 per hour (depending on experience and project)
- 50+ hours per week
- Overtime paid at time-and-a-half
- Weekly earning potential of $2,000+
Travel & Benefits
- Company-paid travel to and from assignments
- Company-provided lodging (private hotel room)
- $45/day per diem

This opportunity is ideal for skilled machinists who have experience machining large components, performing complex setups, and working to tight tolerances in a production environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM) and/or Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL)
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T
- Perform machine setups, indicate parts, establish offsets, and verify dimensions
- Select tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices
- Edit programs and make machine adjustments when required
- Machine large castings, forgings, and fabricated components
- Use precision measuring instruments to verify quality and conformance
- Maintain production schedules while meeting quality standards
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
Qualifications
- 5+ years of HBM and/or VTL machining experience preferred
- Ability to perform complete machine setups independently
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience holding tight tolerances on large components
- CNC programming or editing experience preferred
- Proficient with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and precision measuring tools
- Experience machining large parts in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
