POSITION SUMMARY
Riding Instructor will help lead safe, high quality riding programs at Camp Manitou-Lin. This position provides instruction to riders ages 5 and above in both a group and private setting including to those with cognitive and physical disabilities using ACA and CHA standards and policies. This position requires face-to-face leadership in these programs and involvement with volunteers, camp participants, and other staff. This position may involve early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches group and private riding lessons to kids and adults at various skill levels; including those with various physical and cognitive disabilities
- Assists in maintenance and care of tack
- Follows assigned schedule on a timely manner
- Assists in getting horses ready for lessons and turn out after lessons
- Assists in general care of horses including but not limited to watering, feeding, grooming, and tacking
- Maintains a safe riding program by monitoring riders closely and providing positive instruction
- Adheres to Association, ACA, and CHA safety standards
- Provides a fun and safe lesson environment for campers
- Ensures required paperwork is turned in before participants can ride
- Represents a positive role model attitude and attire for volunteers
- Teaches new skills using YMCA Core Values
- Assist in training, recruiting, and retention of volunteers
Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids
COMPENSATION
- $15.00 - $18.00 / hour
- Shared on-site housing is available.
- Seasonal, Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:
Documented training and experience with riding instruction for individuals of varying abilities. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Desire and ability to work with horses and children in an outdoor environment. YMCA experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Cardio Pulmonary Recitation (CPR) for rescue required
- First Aid certification required
- Blood borne pathogens training required upon hire
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
