REPORTS TO: Vice President of Student Services
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Administration
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $68,365.00

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Financial Aid provides strategic leadership, oversight, and administration of all federal, state, and institutional student aid programs. This responsibility includes the development and implementation of financial aid policies and procedures that support the college mission and maintain regulatory compliance. This position supports student access and success through effective financial aid services and leads a team dedicated to delivering high-quality, student-centered support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Examples performed by this position include:
1. Provide vision and strategic direction for the Financial Aid Office.
2. Serve as the college's primary compliance officer for financial aid.
3. Maintain a strong working knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, services, and regulations.
4. Supervise, train, and evaluate financial aid staff. Work with staff to assign responsibilities, determine department priorities and procedures, and ensure cross training occurs.
5. Directs an effective information and outreach program, which may include financial aid nights at county high schools and presentations for community organizations.
6. Provide oversight for the application, selection, awarding, and renewal of GOCC foundation and institutional scholarships.
7. Oversee the effective use of financial aid system and work with IT and software vendors to maintain system functionality, data integrity, and process automation.
8. Serve as the Financial Aid Lead for annual audits and respond to findings with corrective action plans when necessary.
9. Prepare and submit required federal and state reports, including FISAP, IPEDS, MPDI, gainful employment, and work study federal report in addition to financial aid reports for Glen Oaks, the State, the Federal Government, and other agencies as required.
10. Manage the Satisfactory Academic Progress process. Administer appeals process related to SAP. Establish appeals committee and appeal guidelines. Train appeals committee members and ensure they follow procedural and regulatory requirements. Notify students of appeal outcomes and counsel students on available options.
11. Evaluates and implements new technology and systems for the delivery and monitoring of financial aid.
12. Monitor enrollment reports (Repeat Report, Reinstated/Dropped after Census, Add/Drop, Not Attending, and Withdrawal) to determine correct enrollment status for proper disbursement of funds and to identify students subject to Return to Title IV policy. Calculate aid earned, make necessary adjustments, and notify students of outcomes.
13. Work with Business Office to ensure accurate and timely exchange of information and awards between school information systems including multiple disbursement activities. Oversee reconciliation process of all financial aid funds.
14. Award, monitor, and report for MI Reconnect, MI Community College Guarantee, and the Children's of Veterans Tuition Grant.
15. Administer and conduct ongoing statistical reviews and reconciliation of Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG, Institutional Scholarships, and any other source of funds for student assistance. Take appropriate actions to maximize usage of grant funds and to prevent over awards.
16. Coordinate and execute data transfer between Ellucian Colleague and external organizations, including the Department of Education, Common Origination and Disbursement, and state agencies.
17. Manage budget for department and institutional scholarships.
18. Serve as a technical resource to other departments regarding the financial aid systems and modules; may assist other staff who have access to financial aid information with technical system questions or issues.
19. Review and make determinations for student Dependency Override or Special Circumstance Appeal Requests.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
2. Five (5) years of administrative work experience with demonstrated management skills of organization, planning, and monitoring.
3. Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
4. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree.
2. Progressive experience in financial aid administration in a community college setting.
3. Experience and knowledge of computer software/systems as they pertain to financial aid.
4. Leadership experience supervising professional staff.
5. Experience with Ellucian Colleague.
6. Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
7. NASFAA Credentials.
