Automotive Service Technician / Mechanic
Job Overview
Precision Tune Auto Care Traverse City, MI is seeking an experienced Automotive Service Technician / Mechanic to join our growing team. This role focuses on automotive maintenance and repair services for a high-volume shop, including everything from routine oil changes and brake jobs to engine diagnostics and repair. The ideal candidate is a dependable automotive technician with strong mechanical skills and a customer-focused attitude.
Key Responsibilities
Perform Comprehensive Auto Repairs:
Diagnose and repair a wide range of automotive issues to manufacturer specifications – including brakes, steering/suspension, cooling systems, basic electrical, exhaust, alignments, and more. Carry out all recommended maintenance services (oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, tune-ups) with high quality and efficiency.
Tire and Battery Service:
Install and maintain tires (mounting, balancing, flat repairs) and perform battery tests/replacements, as well as replace small components like wiper blades and light bulbs.
Diagnostics and Troubleshooting:
Utilize automotive diagnostic tools to identify engine, drivetrain, and electrical problems. Accurately troubleshoot issues and recommend appropriate repairs or preventive measures.
Customer Communication:
Clearly explain automotive problems, technical diagnoses, and needed repairs to customers in a friendly, professional manner, ensuring they understand the services performed and value provided. Provide excellent customer service to uphold our reputation for quality car care.
Team Support & Shop Maintenance:
Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with complex repairs as needed, fostering a collaborative team environment. Keep the service bay and shop area clean, organized, and safe by adhering to all company safety policies and environmental regulations. Promptly inform management of any additional repair issues or safety concerns observed during service.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 6 months to 1+ year of automotive repair experience in a professional shop environment (required). Solid understanding of general car maintenance and repair techniques.
Education:
High school diploma or GED (required). Additional automotive technical training or trade school certification is a plus.
Certifications:
ASE certifications are a plus (we provide bonus incentives for each ASE cert earned). EPA Section 609 HVAC Certification for air conditioning handling is preferred .
(A New Mexico State Vehicle Inspector license is not required, as NM does not mandate safety inspections; however, any relevant certifications are welcomed.)
Licenses:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required).
Skills:
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities in automotive systems. Proficiency with tools/equipment for brake service, engine diagnostics, and general auto repair. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and safety.
Work Ethic:
High level of motivation and energy with a customer-first attitude . Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to teamwork and continuous learning (staying updated on the latest automotive technology and repair techniques).
Other Requirements:
Must have or be willing to acquire your own basic set of mechanic’s tools. Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening (required).
Availability to work full-time, five days a week (our shop is open Monday–Saturday, daytime hours; no Sundays) with occasional weekends or overtime as needed.

Hourly pay range approximately $15 – $35 per hour (based on experience and skill level), plus performance bonuses that reward productivity and quality work. Opportunities for rapid pay increases with gained experience and certifications.
