Job Description

This phlebotomist position focuses on performing high-quality blood draws in an outpatient setting, accurately processing and packaging specimens, and coordinating with clinic staff and testing facilities to ensure timely and reliable sample delivery. The role offers strong hands-on experience, opportunities to work in both stationary and float assignments, and a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform approximately 25–30 blood draws per day, ensuring accurate and efficient venipuncture and specimen collection.
  • Properly process blood samples according to established procedures, including labeling, handling, and preparation for transport.
  • Package specimens correctly and securely to maintain sample integrity during transport to the medical testing site in the Novi/Farmington area.
  • Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws and coordinate patient flow.
  • Schedule and coordinate pick-ups and shipping of collected samples to the designated medical testing facility.
  • Follow the correct order of draw and use the appropriate BD Vacutainer tube colors for multiple tube collections.
  • Maintain accurate records of specimens collected, processed, and shipped in accordance with clinic and laboratory requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control, and quality standards while performing phlebotomy and specimen handling.
  • Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support smooth clinic operations and a positive patient experience.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant performing blood draws, processing, and packaging samples.
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited certificate program.
  • Documented experience performing 200 or more solo blood draws.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and routine blood draw techniques in an outpatient setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the correct order of draw for multiple tube collections.
  • Ability to identify and use BD Vacutainer tube colors correctly in accordance with the order of draw.
  • Experience with specimen collection, specimen processing, and proper packaging for transport.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with clinic staff and testing facilities.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Comfort working in both stationary and float phlebotomy assignments as needed.
  • Ability to manage a steady workload of 25–30 blood draws per day while maintaining accuracy and patient care standards.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure correct labeling, handling, and shipping of specimens.
  • Reliability and consistency in attendance, with the ability to commit to the schedule without planned time off in the first 90 days.
  • Commitment to following clinical protocols, safety procedures, and quality standards in all aspects of phlebotomy and specimen handling.
  • Interest in gaining extensive hands-on phlebotomy experience in outpatient environments.

Work Environment

This role is based in outpatient clinical settings in the Novi/Farmington area with a typical schedule of Monday–Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The team at the main Farmington site includes about 15 people, while individual offsite locations typically have 0–2 team members on site, and offsite assignments may involve working with a team of 0–3 people depending on the location. The position involves frequent interaction with clinic staff and medical testing facilities, as well as regular handling, processing, and packaging of specimens using standard phlebotomy equipment such as BD Vacutainer tubes. The dress code requires wearing navy blue scrubs, reflecting a professional clinical environment focused on patient care and teamwork. The role offers exposure to both stationary and float work environments, providing varied experience across different outpatient locations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Novi, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
