NPFE serves 2,100 students in Detroit, Michigan. What You’ll Do
As a Speech Therapist at NPFE, you will play a critical role in supporting students with communication disorders by assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. You will work closely with teachers, school leaders, families, and other support staff to develop and implement effective therapy plans that ensure students can fully access their educational experience. This position serves as a key part of our Special Education team and helps ensure that all NPFE students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders
Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) License
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a school or pediatric setting preferred
Knowledge of IDEA and Michigan special education regulations
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Commitment to NPFE’s mission, vision, and core values
Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations for students
Develop and implement individualized education program (IEP) goals based on evaluation results
Provide direct therapy services to students with speech and language disorders
Collaborate with teachers and other school personnel to support students’ communication needs in the classroom
Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and parent conferences
Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions, progress reports, and documentation as required by law and school policy
Provide consultation and training to staff and families on communication strategies
Stay current with best practices and continuing education in speech-language pathology
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services
