REPORTS TO: Lead Career Coach

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Regular

JOB SUMMARY: Supports YouthBuild participants and SER Metro-Detroit youth job seekers in securing placement, with a focus on skilled trades, apprenticeships, and career pathways. Partners with Career coaches to implement individualized employment plans. Conducts employer outreach and job development to connect youth to opportunities in Detroit and Out- Wayne County. Maintains employer relationships to support placement, retention, and career exposure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for the coordination of employer events at the Youth Centers.
  2. Promoting Youth Center services to local employers in need of hiring qualified employees.
  3. Provide youth participants with work readiness orientation including; workplace conduct and appearance, resume writing, job search strategies, networking, interviewing and other related subjects.
  4. Initiates and maintains ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives, job placement/training agency.
  5. Makes cold calls to employers to recruit their participation, conduct presentation promoting employer services; explains the benefits and employment services provided to employers.
  6. Consults with area chambers of commerce, higher education institutions, apprenticeship programs and all local employers regarding economic and employment trends.
  7. Develops and maintains a positive relationship with employer and community partners, as well as civic groups.
  8. Understands current employment trends and adapts to changing markets.
  9. Monitors job bank database information to ensure that employment opportunities are available for job-ready customers.
  10. Compiles reports that track activities, outcomes and intervention plans.
  11. Attend meetings as required by Youth Services, the training institution and/or other agencies to address participant concerns as needed.
  12. Contributes to the team effort by performing other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Business Management, Public Administration, Economics, Communications, Social Science, or Five years full-time equivalent work experience in customer job placement or job search services in the public or private sector.
  2. Strong skills in sales and networking, industry knowledge, and previous experience recruiting employers, and established employer relationships
  3. Working knowledge of workforce service programs, including WIOA, Apprenticeship Placement.
  4. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and meet goals in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet search engines, Outlook/Exchange, computer reporting and other software/database programs used by Career Centers.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Bilingual Skills (Spanish and/or Arabic) preferred.
  8. Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
  9. Must be an authorized driver and have, or be able to obtain, a valid chauffeur’s license in accordance with agency policy.
  10. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  11. Must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting in accordance with agency and funding requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a normal office environment with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
