POSITION TITLE: Associate Chef
RESPONSIBLE TO: Facilities Director
Position Summary: Prepares nutritionally balanced meals according to planned menus, recipes and special diets. Changes menus as necessary for variety and season of the year, including offering holiday specific menu items. Maintains standards of storage and cleanliness in the kitchen and other areas of the facility. Works cooperatively with other team members to ensure that excellent service is provided to residents.
Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
2. Dresses and behaves professionally.
3. Able to interact effectively with residents, their families and staff.
4. Able to work flexible scheduling including shift work and special events or an occasional weekend.
5. Able to perform tasks independently and without constant supervision.
6. Successful completion of GFS ServSafe training and maintaining certification.
7. Must have valid drivers license and carry full coverage car insurance.
Basic Objectives and Responsibilities:
- Prepare food using menus and recipes following special dietary requirements, both in general for the residents, and from specific special diets for particular residents.
- Perform cleaning tasks necessary for safe and sanitary kitchen operation.
- Store and label all food and supplies as needed.
- Coordinate work with other staff to ensure effective and efficient food service operation and special event planning.
- Ensure that menus and recipes are followed and updated as needed, including carbohydrate, and calorie counts.
- Perform other duties assigned by management staff.
- Computer skills are essential for the job of placing grocery orders and menu making.
- Use of commercial kitchen appliances related to food preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 50 lbs., at times repetitively.
- Able to bend and stoop without limits. Stand on feet for extended periods of time.
- Sighted so as to read small print and handwriting.
- Able to speak and hear so as to communicate with residents, family and staff in person and over the phone.
- Walk to each home to deliver meals pushing/maneuver food carts which requires outdoor weather conditions.
