Registered Dietitian
Duties:
General Summary:
Act as nutritional consultant and resource to members of the health care team. Provides comprehensive nutritional care including assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, implementation of a care plan, counseling, education, and evaluation of outcomes to patients, families, and associates. Coordinates various education programs and seminars on nutritional topics.
1. Assess the nutritional needs of patients by obtaining, verifying, and interpreting data needed to identify nutrition related problems, their causes and significance.
2. Determine from patient/family, medical record, and health care team the food and nutrition related history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical data, medical tests, and procedures, nutrition-focused physical findings and the client history.
3. Determine the nutrition diagnosis to identify and describe a specific nutrition problem (Intake, Clinical or Behavioral-Environmental) that can be resolved or
improved through treatment/nutrition intervention by the registered dietitian.
4. Implement nutrition interventions to resolve or improve the identified nutrition problem. Nutrition therapy is based on individualized, specific patient care needs, including food and or nutrient delivery (meals, snacks, supplements, enteral or parenteral), nutrition education, nutrition counseling, and coordination of care.
5. Monitor and evaluate patient care outcomes to determine the amount of progress made and whether goals/expected outcomes are being met. (Food/nutrition related history outcomes, anthropometric measurement outcomes, biochemical data, medical tests, and procedure outcomes, and nutrition-focused physical finding outcomes.)
6. Monitor patients food tolerances to ensure appropriate food consistencies and assess adequate nutritional intake.
7. Collaborate and communicate with health care providers.

b. Informs team of advances in diet therapy, unusual diet related lab results, or other pertinent facts related to the nutritional care of the patient.
c. Investigates unusual occurrences/customer service complaints.
8. Educate patients and/or their significant other as appropriate, on nutrition and special diets to be followed during and after hospitalization based on
physicians order to aid in maintaining patients health.
9. Maintain documentation of nutrition services provided in the patients medical record.
10. Develop and conduct in-service classes, community education and other health and nutrition offerings as requested or assigned.
11. Participate in special projects and committees related to the nutritional care of patients as needed.
12. Maintain and enhance professional expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities.
13. Develop and maintains educational resources appropriate to patient and audience needs as required.
14. Supervise dietetic interns/students orienting them to the profession and providing clinical teaching, precepting and mentoring throughout their program.
15. Acts as a liaison with the department of culinary wellness, both patient foodservice and retail foodservice, addressing patient, employee, visitor, or staff
needs.
16. Demonstrate professional characteristics and ethics by adhering to department and organizational policy and maintaining up to date knowledge and skills in field of expertise.
17. Perform other related duties as required. Skills:
Requires the ability to read, write and speak English; use and understand medical terminology.
Follow oral and written instructions; perform arithmetic calculations.
Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Requires a relatively high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with medical, nursing and other health care professionals, patients, and their families.

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. Education:
Registered Dietician or Registered Dietitian Nurtritionist from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Education/Experience Required:
Bachelors Degree in Dietetics or related field with completion of an ACENDaccredited
DPD
(Didactic Program in Dietetics) and supervised practice program (dietetic internship) required
IF:
Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential was obtained prior to January 1, 2024, AND Credential is active and issued by the Commission on Dietetic
Registration (CDR).
Masters Degree required with Bachelors in Dietetics or related field with completion of an ACEND-accredited DPD (Didactic Program in Dietetics) and supervised
practice program (dietetic internship) IF:
Initial registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is effective on or after January 1, 2024.
Advanced Practice Certification preferred. Languages:
