As part of a world-class manufacturing team, the Production Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in building state-of-the-art smart vehicles. This position serves as the vital link between strategic goals and daily execution on the plant floor, leading an hourly workforce to deliver high-quality products safely and efficiently. The role focuses on driving operational excellence, shaping a positive and accountable culture, and using data and continuous improvement methodologies to enhance productivity, quality, and safety in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Champion workplace safety by proactively enforcing safety regulations, promoting a culture of vigilance, and ensuring all team members follow established safety procedures.
  • Lead and direct a team of hourly employees to consistently produce high-quality products that meet or exceed production targets, taking full ownership of team performance.
  • Prioritize critical tasks and effectively allocate human resources to maximize efficiency and meet operational goals in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrate a strong bias for action by promptly and decisively addressing safety and quality issues to prevent larger problems and maintain stable operations.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve operational problems by developing and implementing effective solutions, making timely and well-informed decisions, and adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Embrace a servant leadership style focused on building high-performing, winning teams and investing in their growth and development.

  • Build and maintain strong, positive working relationships with team members, suppliers, union representatives, and other partners through transparent communication and a willingness to listen.
  • Champion accountability by managing both personal performance and that of the hourly workforce with respect to processes, standards, and expectations.
  • Ensure fairness in decision-making and performance management, addressing performance issues and conflicts with decisive and consistent action.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments, stakeholders, union partners, and management by actively listening to and valuing diverse perspectives to continuously improve operations.
  • Support and apply Lean, Six Sigma, and/or Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) methodologies to structure problem-solving and drive operational improvements.
  • Leverage familiarity with machining and gear machining operations to guide production activities, troubleshoot issues, and support technical decision-making where applicable.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory and/or manufacturing experience, ideally in a high-volume production environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in production supervision, including leading hourly teams and managing performance against production targets.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodology and/or the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP).
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to address safety and quality issues promptly and make timely, well-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships with team members, union representatives, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to de-escalate tense situations.
  • Capability to track and manage employee time and attendance accurately and use data to support operational decisions.
  • Commitment to high standards of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a technical or manufacturing-related field is preferred.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with gear machining operations is a strong advantage.
  • Machining or machining supervision is beneficial.
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Comfort working rotating shifts and hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong servant leadership mindset focused on team development and empowerment.
  • Ability to use data and metrics to drive decisions and measure improvements in efficiency and quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative, psychologically safe work culture.
  • Experience applying structured continuous improvement methodologies in a production setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern manufacturing plant focused on producing smart vehicles using advanced technologies and processes. You work closely with an hourly production team in a high-volume environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The position requires flexibility to work rotating shifts, off-shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production demands. You regularly use standard office tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook to manage data, track performance, and communicate with stakeholders. The setting involves collaboration with union representatives, suppliers, and cross-functional teams, and calls for adherence to established safety and operational procedures on the production floor.

This is a Contract position based out of Sterling Heights, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
