The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Grandville that are seeking skilled Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, CAD models, and specifications.
• Perform precision measurements and quality checks using specialized metrology equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling malfunctions, implementing effective repair solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and manufacturing processes.
• Select and work with a variety of materials, including tool steels, carbides, and alloys.

Recommended Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent practical experience (e.g., 5+ years).
• Proficiency in operating and setting up a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM.
• Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Expertise in using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges for quality inspection.
• Solid understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and the selection of appropriate tooling materials.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing tooling issues, ensuring high-quality and efficient production.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
• Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparators).
• Basic welding or fabrication skills for tool repair and modification.
• Knowledge of various material heat treatment processes.
