Project Engineer - Commercial Electrical Construction
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Project Engineer to support commercial electrical construction projects within a self-perform electrical contractor environment specializing in healthcare, hospital, university, and institutional work.
This is not a purely administrative role. You will work closely with Project Managers, field teams, and executive leadership throughout the full project lifecycle — from preconstruction through closeout — supporting coordination, documentation, scheduling, procurement, and day-to-day project execution across active job sites.
For the right candidate, this position offers a strong long-term growth path into a Project Manager role within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers throughout all phases of commercial electrical construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout
- Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement tracking, and project documentation
- Coordinate with electricians, foremen, field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain alignment between plans and field execution
- Interface with general contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders on day-to-day project matters
- Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Assist estimating and preconstruction teams with takeoffs, scope reviews, and project setup activities
- Collaborate with BIM/VDC teams to identify and resolve design conflicts while supporting field-ready coordination
- Track project schedules, procurement timelines, material deliveries, and field progress
- Maintain organized project records and reporting within construction management and ERP systems
- Participate in jobsite visits to support field coordination and active project execution
Requirements
- 2–5+ years of experience within commercial electrical construction in a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role
- Experience working for an electrical contractor is required
- Experience supporting project coordination including RFIs, submittals, scheduling, procurement, and field communication
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and construction documents
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Accubid, Procore, or similar construction management software preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
- Genuine interest in growing into a Project Manager role over time
- Hands-on involvement in day-to-day project execution required
- Commercial electrical experience required — residential-only or GC-only backgrounds will not be considered
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health insurance and benefits package
- Retirement plan options
- Paid time off
- Defined advancement path toward a Project Manager role
- Opportunity to contribute to large-scale healthcare, university, and institutional construction projects
