The Resident Life Partner is an essential member of the Agape Home team. This position partners with residents to support the activities of daily life, including personal care, medication administration, meaningful activities, meal service, housekeeping, and the general care of the cottage.
Resident Life Partners provide individualized, person-centered support through “quality-of-the-moment” programming based on the elements of everyday life: socialization with friends, joy in accomplishment, meaningful engagement, and opportunities to share God’s tender mercy.
This approach requires an ongoing awareness of and respect for each resident’s current feelings, abilities, preferences, and comfort. Resident Life Partners encourage residents to complete each part of a task as independently as possible and provide assistance where needed.
Essential ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care and Resident Support- Partner with residents to complete dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, bathing, eating, and toileting.
- Recognize each resident’s ability to complete individual steps independently, encourage the resident to do so, and provide assistance to complete the remaining portions of the task.
- Respond promptly and compassionately to residents’ needs.
- Supervise and protect residents while maintaining their dignity, comfort, and independence.
- Maintain resident rights, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
- Observe residents for changes in health status, behavior, abilities, or emotional well-being.
- Promptly report observed changes to the Resident Life Coordinator or designated resource person.
- Provide physical assistance and hands-on support to residents as required.
- Administer and chart medications according to physician orders and established procedures.
- Follow standard precautions and all applicable infection-control procedures.
- Follow requirements for the prevention and containment of communicable diseases.
- Complete all required resident-care records, reports, and documentation accurately and promptly.
- Participate in Life Plan and problem-solving sessions regarding residents.
- Prepare meals according to the established daily menu.
- Serve meals according to the daily menu.
- Assist residents with eating as needed.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning spills, and returning misplaced items to their appropriate locations.
- Complete residents’ laundry, including personal clothing and linens, according to applicable washing instructions.
- Cooperate with other team members in completing shared household responsibilities, such as making coffee, cleaning spills, and maintaining the general care of the cottage.
- Practice economy and responsible stewardship when using supplies and equipment.
- Provide planned and spontaneous activities within a structured and calm environment.
- Encourage socialization, joy in accomplishment, meaningful participation, and positive daily experiences.
- Remain aware of and responsive to each resident’s current feelings, comfort, interests, and abilities.
- Promote and contribute new ideas throughout the residence.
- Accept appropriate changes readily and maintain a positive attitude.
- Volunteer for and participate in continuous quality-improvement projects that promote Agape Home’s partnering philosophy.
- Respond appropriately and calmly during emergency situations.
- Supervise, protect, and assist residents during emergencies.
- Assist residents with emergency-preparedness activities.
- Participate in emergency drills and accurately document the results.
- Follow established safety and fire-prevention procedures.
- Work consistently and cooperatively with residents, team members, families, consultant personnel, ancillary service providers, and supervisors under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the residence and the Employee Handbook.
- Complete all documentation requirements assigned by the Resident Life Coordinator.
- Participate actively in orientation and training sessions.
- Accept accountability for understanding and applying all information presented during orientation and training.
- Ask for clarification and question any area that is not completely clear or understood.
- Maintain a positive, flexible, and cooperative approach to resident care and teamwork.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Resident Life Coordinator.
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Be in good physical health.
- Be capable of completing required reports and documentation.
- Be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Be suitable and able to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of each resident.
- Be capable of handling emergency situations.
- Have a genuine desire to work closely with older adults.
- Demonstrate sensitivity, empathy, and an interest in working with frail and memory-impaired individuals.
- Be reliable, flexible, patient, caring, and able to maintain an appropriate sense of humor.
- Be able to cope with the mental and emotional stresses associated with working with memory-impaired individuals.
- Be physically capable of providing residents with necessary hands-on assistance and physical support.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
Previous experience working with older adults, frail individuals, residents experiencing memory impairment, or in a residential-care setting is preferred.
Required Training and CompetenciesBefore independently performing assigned duties, the Resident Life Partner must demonstrate competency in each of the following areas:
- Reporting requirements
- First Aid
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Personal care
- Resident supervision and protection
- Resident rights
- Safety and fire prevention
- Prevention and containment of communicable diseases
- Medication administration and documentation
- Employees must comply with all established dress-code and uniform requirements.
- The position includes physical demands associated with resident care, personal assistance, housekeeping, laundry, meal service, and emergency response.
- Employees must be able to provide physical support and hands-on assistance to residents.
- Employees may be exposed to inappropriate behaviors or combativeness from residents.
- Work is performed in a smoke-free facility and on smoke-free grounds.
