About this opportunity:
We are seeking a full-time Accounts Payable Accountant to join our team in the Grand Rapids office.
Job responsibilities include:
Accounts Payable
- Set-up subcontracts and purchase orders in Job Cost System.
- Ensure all Subcontractor/Suppliers invoices are submitted as required by subcontract and purchase order agreements.
- Maintain Accounts Payable Database including but not limited to updating vendor information, verifying Federal Tax ID Numbers, and ensuring payments are directed to the proper remittance address.
- Ensure Subcontractor/Suppliers Waivers of Lien are received and correct.
- Ensure all Compliance requirements for W-9’s, Insurance Certificates, EEO, and other documents are met by Subcontractors and Suppliers.
- Scheduling and preparing checks.
- Resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation.
- Review Vendor Statements.
- Process, review and track general ledger posting of construction accounts payables invoices for multiple projects.
- Ensure all Subcontractors and Supplier Invoices are processed accurately and timely.
- Ensure good communication with Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. Vendors – calls and e-mails are responded to timely.
- Ensure compliance with sales and use tax regulations.
- Process employee expense reports.
- Compile information for external auditors, as required.
- Ensure payment discounts are taken when appropriate.
- File 1099’s annually with the IRS.
- Ensure Project Files are organized and follow project document guidelines.
General Accounting
- Ensure proper internal control procedures are in place and are followed.
- Ensure that assigned month -end closing goals are met (1oth of the Month).
- Month-end General Ledger reconciliations are performed as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Education and experience: 3+ years of experience, preferably in a construction project cost environment, an associate’s degree or bachelor's degree in accounting or business, is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
- Eye for Details: Accuracy is critical for success in this role. Candidate must have superior organizational, communication (both written and verbal) and decision-making skills.
- Tech know how: A strong background in using all Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, as well as with an ability to become familiar with firm-specific programs and software (Acumatica).

Base pay is positioned within the beginning salary range based on several factors including a candidate’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
