Salary Range: $57,000 - $89,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

We partner with manufacturers across Ludington seeking Tool Makers who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines.
• Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine specifications.
• Perform precision measurements using metrology equipment like micrometers, calipers, and CMMs to ensure accuracy.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain existing production tooling to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tooling applications to ensure durability and functionality.
• Collaborate with engineers and production staff to develop effective tooling solutions and improve manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Tool Maker or in a similar precision machining role.
• Proficiency in operating manual machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders) and/or CNC machinery.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various tool steels, heat treatment processes, and precision measurement techniques using tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Completion of an accredited Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent vocational training/certification.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
• Proficiency in advanced metrology and inspection techniques, including CMM operation.
• Demonstrated experience with welding and fabrication processes for tool repair and modification.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
