Job Summary
We are seeking a Power Systems Network Modeling Engineer to support daily network model maintenance activities within a large-scale power grid environment. This role focuses on maintaining accurate transmission network models, supporting system analysis tools, and assisting internal teams by ensuring modeling data remains reliable and compliant with operational requirements.
Job Description
- Analyze transmission network data including transmission and generation element parameters to maintain accurate system models.
- Support model updates through Network Operations Model Change Requests (NOMCRs) and ensure all modifications are accurately implemented.
- Review contingencies, outages, special protection systems, remedial action plans, and mitigation action plans that may impact system models.
- Utilize Energy Management System (EMS) tools, transmission planning power flow software, and Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) analysis tools to maintain and validate system models.
- Ensure modeling accuracy across multiple system planning and operational platforms.
- Work closely with internal groups including System Operations, Operations Support, Market Operations Support, Client Services, System Planning, and Metering teams.
- Coordinate with members of the Network Data Support Working Group (NDSWG) to facilitate data exchange and transmission network model maintenance.
- Develop and apply data mining techniques and database queries to generate compliance-driven reports and validate model accuracy.
- Create tools, scripts, or queries to support data integrity and model verification.
- Review, draft, and implement improvements to network modeling processes.
- Support updates and upgrades to modeling applications such as SGEM to enhance functionality and operational capabilities.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies or tools to improve modeling accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist in reviewing, drafting, and presenting updates to operational protocols, procedures, guides, and training materials related to modeling.
- Provide training and evaluation support for participants in the Engineering Development Program (EDP).
- Support documentation and training efforts for internal teams and external market participants.
Job Skills Required
- Minimum 1 year of professional experience beyond degree requirements.
- Familiarity with power system analysis and modeling.
- Experience with database querying and data analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with power flow modeling tools or EMS systems.
- Familiarity with transmission network modeling and grid operations environments.
- Experience working with large datasets and model validation processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams across multiple departments.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience providing comparable technical knowledge.
Pay Rate
- $36 - $42.80 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
