Production Shift Leader (7th Level)

Work Arrangement

Onsite. This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac Metal Center (PMC) on a full-time basis.

The Role

In this role, you will lead assigned production shifts at the Pontiac Metal Center, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality stamping operations. You will be responsible for the daily execution of production activities, effective utilization of personnel and equipment, and consistent application of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) principles. You will coach, train, and develop Group Leaders and team members while fostering strong working relationships with hourly employees, UAW leadership, and support organizations. This role requires hands-on leadership, strong problem-solving capability, and the ability to drive accountability for safety, quality, cost, and delivery at the shift level.

What You’ll Do

Lead the daily execution of stamping operations for the assigned shift, ensuring safety, quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness targets are met.

Promote and model safe work practices while driving compliance with health, safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping standards.

Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals, and leverage available resources to resolve quality concerns.

Coordinate cross-functional support with Tool & Die, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and GSC to address equipment issues, quality incidents, and production disruptions.

Implement and sustain systems that prevent recurrence of known issues through structured problem solving and GMS processes.

Ensure effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules and cost objectives.

Lead and support GMS activities across assigned areas, including launch readiness, pilot builds, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Participate in the selection, training, development, and evaluation of salaried and hourly employees; build highly effective teams.

Ensure team members receive appropriate Job Instruction Training (JIT) and standardized work is followed.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.

3–5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in stamping or heavy industrial environments.

Demonstrated working knowledge and application of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) principles.

Prior leadership experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.

Ability to lead and participate in structured problem-solving activities.

Ability to interpret and act on performance indicators using production dashboards, quality tracking tools, manpower management systems, and business performance metrics.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at the shop-floor level.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience in pressroom operations, tool & die support, or stamping launch activities.

Experience supporting workplace safety systems, ergonomics initiatives, or GMS-BIQ4 standards.

Experience supporting PPAP, run-at-rate events, tooling validation, or launch readiness activities.

Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills and experience supporting grievance processes.
