Classification: Temporary / Part Time / Non-exempt
Up to 29 hours per week

Position Concept:
The Traveling Summer Educator will primarily assist our School Programs Coordinator with the planning and execution of our exciting library outreach program! This role will be responsible for leading engaging, educational workshop sessions for children, primarily outside of the Center’s facilities and into the community. All seasonal educators will also work with general visitors by providing hands-on activities during special events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide a fun learning experience in a positive, helpful, and professional manner through off-site, educational programming.
a. Transport materials and programs to and from the Center and out into the community through libraries, schools, and other venues.
b. Must be able to effectively communicate with Center administrators, school and library administrators, families, and children.
c. Assist the School Programs Coordinator with the supply inventory, organization and purchasing for summer library outreach programs.
d. Incorporate active learning and inquiry when possible.
e. Study provided curriculum and convey information included in an accessible manner.
f. Attend all required training sessions.
2. Provide an informative and enjoyable exhibit or activity experience in a positive, helpful, and professional manner.
a. Maintain a working knowledge of all current exhibits or program offerings.
b. Learn materials and activities that will enable them to facilitate an exciting experience for all visitors.
c. Must be able to support learning by providing and encouraging positive guest experiences.
d. Ability to adjust programs and experiences to the age level of the group.
e. Relate what is being displayed or described to something within the experience of the visitor.
f. Demonstrate adaptability to a highly flexible environment and schedule.
g. Provide support to other educational programs as needed.
Qualifications:
· Candidate must be 25 years of age or older with a valid driving license.
· Candidate must have a strong background in either the arts, sciences, history, theatre, or music.
· Candidate must have great customer service skills.
- Candidates must be able to learn materials and activities that will enable them to facilitate an exciting experience for all participants.
· Candidates shall possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
· Ability to present in front of small groups of people.
· Ability to work weekends and evenings if needed.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, and a desire to work with people across many lines of difference.
Education and Experience Requirements :
· High School Diploma or GED required
· Experience working with youth in a formal or informal educational environment preferred
· Working knowledge or experience with history, visual arts, science, and/or performing arts up to an 8th grade level
