Civil Engineer
Large utility company is looking for a Civil Engineer in Jackson, MI. This role requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and an active Michigan Professional Engineer license to manage substation environmental compliance by designing oil containment systems and performing calculations for spill prevention plans in accordance with EPA 40 CFR Part 112. education: Bachelors responsibilities:
- Develop, update, and maintain Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plans for substation facilities in compliance with EPA 40 CFR Part 112.
- Analyze engineering materials including site drawings, blueprints, aerial imagery, survey reports, and topographical data to support planning.
- Design and perform calculations for stormwater management and oil containment volumes.
- Create and revise facility diagrams using CAD and other design software to reflect compliance requirements.
- Conduct field investigations and site visits to verify compliance with plans and ensure implementation of engineering controls.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare technical reports documenting compliance activities.
- Collaborate with construction, operations, and environmental teams to identify and mitigate environmental risks.
- Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies and respond to regulatory inquiries.
- Represent the utility during audits with environmental agencies.
- Educate internal teams on spill prevention procedures and regulatory obligations.
- Ensure coordination across business units to align with federal, state, and internal environmental policies.
- Demonstrate proficiency in civil engineering principles related to environmental compliance and infrastructure design.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of EPA regulations, especially 40 CFR Part 112.
- Apply knowledge of relevant Michigan environmental laws.
- Utilize experience with spill modeling tools such as the Mineral Oil Spill Evaluation System.
- Interpret technical documents and produce accurate engineering drawings.
- Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
- Maintain a detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Manage multiple projects while meeting regulatory deadlines.
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Hold an active State of Michigan Professional Engineer license.
- Utilize the Professional Engineer license for required plan certifications and updates.
