SENIOR ENGINEER

IMPACT AND OPPORTUNITY

​​Gentherm is expanding its business portfolio beyond the traditional automotive sector and into new markets. To support this strategic growth, the Advanced Engineering department is seeking a multidisciplinary engineer with strong mechanical and electrical/electronic expertise to help rapidly design, develop, and prototype innovative solutions for potential customers.

This role will focus on the electro-mechanical integration of thermal and pneumatic comfort systems into products across diverse industries, including automotive seating, commercial trucks, two-wheelers, and medical applications. While our portfolio is broad, our core mission remains consistent: to create products that positively impact people. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and integrate electro-mechanical systems combining pneumatics, thermal technologies, sensors, and embedded controls.
  • Create and interpret 3D CAD models, schematics, and system architecture diagrams.
  • Develop scripts and software using LabVIEW, MATLAB or Python for data acquisition, visualization, and performance analysis.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes for performance, reliability, and safety compliance.
  • Plan and execute validation protocols, including environmental, thermal cycling, airflow, and pressure testing.
  • Design and implement real-time control algorithms (e.g., PID loops) for thermal and pneumatic regulation.
  • Program and troubleshoot microcontrollers, PLCs, and embedded platforms.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, R&D, and manufacturing teams throughout development and launch.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA activities for safety-critical applications.
  • Prepare design specifications, test plans, validation reports, and maintain compliant design history files.
  • Troubleshoot field and production issues, implementing efficiency, responsiveness, and cost improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, CE, UL, FDA as applicable) and company quality systems.
  • Track project progress, manage technical risks, and support Agile or stage-gate development processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in component-level integration, validation, and testing.
  • Strong grasp of engineering first principles for problem-solving and design optimization.
  • Hands-on expertise in PCB schematic and layout design using Altium Designer or equivalent tools.
  • Proficient with CAD modeling and design (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Skilled in creating, interpreting, and troubleshooting wiring diagrams.
  • 2+ years of experience in data acquisition and analysis using MATLAB, Excel, LabVIEW, Python, or similar platforms.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, IBM Jazz) to drive project efficiency.
  • Background in the medical device industry (not required, but highly valued).
  • Expert-level knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, LIN, USB, Ethernet, etc.) and wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).
  • Proficiency in airflow measurement and analysis, including use of CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and CFD simulation software (ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFX, Siemens StarCCM).
