Music Teacher - Shared Time

Guardian Angels Catholic School is seeking a passionate and faith-filled Music Teacher for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are looking for an educator who values academic excellence, joyful learning, strong relationships with students, and the importance of nurturing the whole child through the arts and our Catholic faith.

This position is a Shared Time position through Berkley School District. In addition to responsibilities at Guardian Angels, the teacher would report attendance and participate in evaluations through Berkley School District.

Position Overview

The Music Teacher will provide engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in grades K–8 while fostering creativity, confidence, collaboration, and a love of music. Responsibilities include teaching general music classes in Kindergarten through 8th grade and offering Academy electives that may include choir, ukulele, music appreciation, worship music, or other courses aligned with the teacher’s strengths and interests.

The ideal candidate will create a classroom environment rooted in respect, joy, structure, and encouragement while helping students use their God-given talents to glorify Him.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Teach music classes for Kindergarten through 8th grade students
• Coordinate and prepare students for school performances including the Christmas Concert and Spring Concert
• Support school liturgies, prayer services, and other events that incorporate music
• Incorporate music theory, appreciation, performance, movement, and creativity into instruction
• Foster a positive, faith-centered, and inclusive classroom environment
• Collaborate closely with faculty, administration, and families to support student growth
• Maintain classroom instruments and materials while respectfully sharing the space with parish and evening church groups
• Help students build confidence, discipline, teamwork, and joy through the performing arts
• Direct or assist with optional after-school performing arts opportunities such as drama, choir, or musical productions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field from an accredited university
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate preferred
• Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school music preferred
• Practicing Catholic preferred, or a willingness to support and uphold the mission and values of Catholic education
• Completion of Protecting God’s Children training required
