Position Description: Foster Care Supportive Visitation (FCSV) – Visit Coach
Directly Responsible to: Program Supervisor
FLSA Status: Salary
I. GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the FCSV Supervisor provides direct services to the Foster Care
Supportive Visitation children and families. Provide services in Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Sanilac, and
Tuscola Counties.
II.QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education Experience: A bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, family ecology,
consumer/community services, family studies, family and/or child development, guidance/school
counseling, counseling psychology or criminal justice is a minimum requirement. A master’s degree in
social work is preferred.
B. Knowledge: Field experience working with children and families with multiple problems and the
overall ability to relate to and engage with these families is paramount. Experience in and knowledge
of brief, solution-focused therapy is preferred. An understanding of the DHHS Family Preservation
philosophy and intervention strategies is essential. Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule; work a
non-traditional, flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
III. PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the strength-based, solution-focused brief therapy model of
treatment and the Nurturing Parenting curriculum (once trained).
2. Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the family’s work and school schedule and be
available for crisis intervention to families 7 days a week/24 hours per day if necessary.
3. Participation in all initial and ongoing training as provided by DHHS staff or trainers
coordinated by DHHS. Mandatory attendance at Nurturing Parenting training before clients
are assigned.
4. Work with FCSV Supervisor on protocols and procedures for receiving referrals in consultation
with the local DHHS referring units, in consultation with the DHHS Family Preservation
Program Office.
5. Provide services in the family’s home, at DHHS or a location that is mutually agreed upon by
DHHS, Spectrum staff and the family.
6. Work a flexible schedule that is dictated by the needs of the family (rather than an 8-5
schedule).
7. Provide FCSV Supervisor your availability to meet program needs (ability to work after 5 p.m.
and on weekends and availability of on-call coverage) in order to fulfill and meet all availability
requirements.
8. Participate in all scheduled meetings, case consultation, case reviews and ongoing training
opportunities as necessary for contract compliance and as determined by the DHHS Family
Preservation Program Office.
9. Work with FCSV Supervisor for program, contract and outcome compliance to meet quarterly
Performance Outcome goals.
10. Work with FCSV Supervisor in assuring all case related files are up to date, accessible and
complete.
11. Work with FCSV Supervisor on scheduling at least one home visit (at least once per year).
Request supervisory support on home visits as needed.
12. Participate in weekly and/or bi-weekly, individual supervision with assigned FCSV Supervisor
for the purpose of discussion of each assigned families, reviewing individual case progress
and consultation on solution-focused casework plans and documentation. Participate in team
meetings scheduled by FCSV supervisor.
13. Prepare for FCSV supervisory review and approval, by signature and date, all required service
plans, progress and termination reports.
14. Provide cell phone numbers to assigned families (or another approved method of direct
contact). Spectrum will use cell/mobile phones.
15. Provide service to the family for approximately 18 weeks.
16. Author a written termination report using the required form; with FCSV supervisory approval,
submit this to the DHHS referring worker per contract time frames.
17. Per the contract, administer the required family satisfaction and referring caseworker
questionnaires {developed by DHHS} upon termination of each case to determine satisfaction
with FCSV services. Assure that a copy of the client satisfaction survey will be kept in each
family case record. The worker satisfaction survey is to be given to the FCSV supervisor.
18. Participate in quality assurance activities as designed by the DHHS and/or Family Preservation
Program Office.
19. Maintain a written record of services provided to each family {utilize forms developed by
DHHS}.
20. Work with FCSV Supervisor to assure that Expected Contract Performance Outcomes are
collected, met, documented and reported.
Other Assignments
Completes any/all tasks and duties as assigned by Spectrum Administrative staff.
Complies with all Spectrum Personnel Policies and procedures.
Professionally represents the agency’s programs and services in the community through
interagency committees and organizations and public speaking.
Assures that case files are stored appropriately and consistently with agency and program
protocol.
Uses keys, gate cards, identification cards, beepers, office equipment and supplies: and all
other assigned property appropriately: informs supervisor immediately if assigned property is
lost, stolen or broken: returns all assigned property in good repair upon termination of
employment.
Works on assigned committees, completing special projects, and participating in Agency
decision-making as needed.
