Job Description

Industrial Controls Electrician — Machine Build & Prototyping

Location: Auburn Hills, MI | Employment: Permanent, direct hire | Company: Tier-one automotive supplier

A day in this role

Morning arrives on a fast-paced shop floor in Auburn Hills. You pull the latest build packet, review schematics, and gather your hand tools, saws, and test gear. By mid-morning, you’re routing field wiring on a new piece of tooling, soldering connections to spec, and verifying signals with a DMM and oscilloscope. After lunch, you troubleshoot a prototype assembly to the component level, calibrate a subsystem, and capture test data for the quality record—before updating the Shop Manager on project progress. You wrap by tidying your bench, noting inventory needs, and dropping suggestions for the next continuous improvement meeting.

What you will do
  • Interpret and execute technical process specifications, procedures, and standards for machine and tooling builds.
  • Fabricate electronic hardware for developmental, prototype, and other critical applications.
  • Perform machine and equipment build, field wiring, and debug activities for assembly operations.
  • Assemble and test printed circuit boards, hardware assemblies, devices, and systems per drawings—verifying functionality and component compliance.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and systems to the component level; implement checks and modifications as needed.
  • Record and document test data; generate sketches, schematics, and graphical test results.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace by following safety and housekeeping procedures and regulations.
  • Recommend and participate in productivity and process-efficiency improvements.
  • Provide detailed written input for design reviews, proposals, specifications, work standards, and business processes.
  • Complete build documents, forms, and reports promptly in accordance with the quality management system.
  • Interface professionally with customers and vendors.
  • Communicate project status and milestones to the Shop Manager.
  • Help sustain predetermined inventory levels of parts, consumables, and materials within the build shop.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
What you bring
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years working with electrical/electronic systems and circuits, including testing, troubleshooting, soldering, wiring, prototype assembly, and data recording; automotive experience preferred.
  • Preferred certifications: IPC J-STD-001 (soldering) and IPC-A-610 (electronic assembly acceptability).
Technical strengths
  • Fluency with electronic assembly standards, including ESD practices and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and operate complex SMT assembly equipment.
  • Proficiency reading detailed schematics and assembly drawings; executing rigorous test procedures.
  • Strong grasp of digital, analog, power, RF, and FPGA electronics.
  • Component-level test and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Hands-on with DMMs, oscilloscopes, thermocouples, strain gauges, signal generators/analyzers, programmable power supplies, and similar instruments.
  • Skilled with common hand and power tools.
Core competencies
  • High attention to technical detail and sound decision-making.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; ability to translate complex technical details for teams and customers.
  • Effective multitasking under pressure with strong deadline discipline.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel proficiency.
  • Consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Ability to keep a neat, organized, and compliant work area.
Benefits
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical
  • Delta Dental
  • VSP Vision
  • 401k Matching
