Guitar Instructor – Part Time

About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the Strings Department Chair, the Guitar Instructor provides instruction and coaching for all ages from beginning through advanced levels with room for growth opportunities and department expansion. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with the drive and ambition to make a larger impact within the community through the performing arts.

Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities

Instruction and Mentorship

· Guide students using a variety of teaching methods and materials that foster growth and creative exploration.

· Provide expert music instruction, including demonstrating during lessons.

· Ensure students are performance-ready and understand the process of translating practice work into a public presentation.

· Establish a good rapport with students and families, encouraging open discussion.

Administrative

· Manage logistics, including but not limited to: communication with FSPA office staff, lesson scheduling, registration, and regular communication with students and families.

· Adhere to all FIM policies and procedures set forth.

Community Building

· Foster an inclusive, student-centered environment that supports risk-taking, mutual respect, and creative expression.

· Support outreach and communication efforts to help raise awareness, engage new participants, and connect the work of the Flint School of Performing Arts to the broader community.

· Model curiosity, openness, and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in the field and related teaching experience preferred

· Experience teaching diverse styles of music preferred

· Strong interpersonal skills

· Effective communication skills
