Reporting Analyst - Business Intelligence

Detroit Pistons
Detroit, MI
Description

Are you looking to be part of a high-performing team of go-getters who make a difference both on and off the court? Join the Detroit Pistons as we harness the power of basketball to unite our city, elevate our fans, and drive lasting community impact.

The Detroit Pistons are seeking a Reporting Analyst – Business Intelligence to join our Data Strategy & Analytics team. This role will help shape how data drives revenue, marketing performance, and business operations across an NBA franchise. You will design, build, and own high-impact dashboards and reporting products that support ticketing, marketing, and cross-functional business teams. This role is ideal for someone who sees dashboards not as static reports, but as user-facing products that influence decisions and performance.

If you are detail-oriented and product-minded, passionate about turning data into clear, actionable insight, and bring a positive, collaborative approach to working with diverse teams, we’d love to meet you!

Responsibilities

Own Reporting Products End-to-End

  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and recurring reports using Tableau and/or Power BI.
  • Own the lifecycle of assigned reporting solutions, from requirements gathering and stakeholder alignment to deployment, iteration, and documentation.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established BI and visualization best practices.
  • Treat dashboards as user-facing products, prioritizing clarity, usability, and executive-ready presentation.

Partner with the Business

  • Collaborate with ticketing, marketing, and business operations teams to translate business questions into actionable reporting solutions.
  • Communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis to support revenue initiatives, campaign performance evaluation, and operational decision-making.

Improve & Scale

  • Contribute to a standardized reporting framework and visual design system that promotes consistency across dashboards.
  • Identify and eliminate manual reporting processes through automation and scalable solutions.
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging BI technologies to continuously improve reporting capabilities.
  • Over time, expand into deeper analytical work beyond dashboards, including advanced analysis and strategic insights.

This role offers the opportunity to help build and mature reporting capabilities within a professional sports organization, directly influencing revenue growth and business performance.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data visualization roles.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Strong SQL skills, including multi-table joins, aggregations, window functions, and query optimization.
  • Experience building executive-facing dashboards with a strong focus on UX, clarity, and storytelling.
  • Experience automating recurring reporting processes and improving efficiency.
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, or Azure is a plus.

Core Competencies

  • Strong data visualization and storytelling skills.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize competing requests.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in sports, media, entertainment, or other data-rich industries.
  • Certification in data visualization or analytics (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Data Analyst).
  • Portfolio or examples of past dashboards/reporting work strongly preferred.
