At JJ4K , we are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where young children can grow and thrive. We’re seeking a compassionate, experienced Lead Pre School Teacher to help shape the early development of our youngest learners.

What You’ll Do (Daily Responsibilities) Classroom Leadership & Supervision

• Open the room (lights, safety scan, set up centers/materials)
• Maintain proper ratios and active supervision (positioning, scanning, counting)
• Assign/support assistants and floaters
• Keep the classroom running smoothly during transitions (bathroom, handwashing, meals)

Teaching & Learning (Planned + Flexible)

• Follow weekly lesson plans (themes, skills, small groups, centers)
• Lead circle time, small groups, and learning centers (literacy, math, science, sensory, art, dramatic play)
• Differentiate for mixed ages/skills and children with IFSP/IEP supports
• Embed learning in routines (counting at cleanup, letter sounds at sign-in)

Child Guidance & Behavior Support

• Use consistent expectations and positive guidance
• De-escalate behaviors; teach replacement skills (taking turns, calm-down steps)
• Track patterns/triggers and communicate strategies with the team
• Partner with families/director when a behavior plan is needed

Observation, Documentation & Assessment

• Observe children during play and learning
• Document progress (notes, checklists, photos if allowed)
• Maintain portfolios/assessment logs as required
• Use observations to adjust lessons and supports

Health, Safety & Licensing Compliance

• Daily health checks on arrival (per policy)
• Sanitation routines (toys, tables, bathroom checks, handwashing)
• Allergy awareness + meal/snack safety
• Incident/accident reports, medication steps (if applicable), emergency readiness
• Ensure required postings and forms are current in the classroom

Family Communication

• Greet families at drop-off; provide quick daily updates at pick-up
• Communicate wins and concerns professionally
• Send messages/notes (app or paper) per center routine
• Support conferences/goal setting

Team Coordination & Professionalism

• Model calm, organized, respectful leadership
• Train new staff on room routines and expectations
• Communicate needs/issues to administration
• Attend meetings and complete required training

Requirements (Michigan Lead Teacher Qualifications)

• Must be at least 19 years old
• High school diploma or GED
• Must meet ONE of the following:

Option A (Experience + MiRegistry Training + GSQ)

• 1 year experience, AND MiRegistry-approved training:
• 3 hrs each: Program management; Observation/Documentation/Assessment; Teaching & Learning
• 6 hrs: Interactions & Guidance OR Challenging Behaviors OR Trauma-Informed Practices
• Works in a Great Start to Quality (GSQ) participating center

Option B (Experience + Coursework + GSQ)

• 6 months experience, AND
• 6 semester hours / 9 CEUs / 90 clock hours in ECE/child development/child-related field
• (Up to 30 hours MiRegistry training can count)
• Works in a GSQ participating center

Option C (Credential/Degree + MiRegistry Training)

• CDA OR Montessori credential OR Infant Family Associate credential OR Associate degree+ (any field), AND
• MiRegistry-approved training:
• 3 hrs each: Program management; Observation/Documentation/Assessment; Teaching & Learning
• 6 hrs: Interactions & Guidance OR Challenging Behaviors OR Trauma-Informed Practices
