Plainwell is the only JBS plant with Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP), a packaging process that changes oxygen levels to extend shelf-life. The MAP process is a part of the Plainwell ground beef operation. Plainwell is also one of the few plants that produces ground beef patties. Over one million lbs (450,000 kg) of beef are produced each day. The Plainwell facility produces biogas in an anaerobic lagoon and uses it in place of natural gas to heat a portion of the water used in the plant. The facility was recognized by the American Meat Institute as a Tier 3 facility for its accomplishments with ISO 14001. Plainwell recently built a $31 million distribution center (85,000 ft²) with a 55,000 box capacity.

QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIFICATIONS SUPERINTENDENT

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leads and directs the work of the Fabrication Quality Assurance Supervisors
  • Responsible for the monitoring and adherence of all quality specification of all domestic and export product
  • Oversee daily quality checks performed by QA Technicians including monitoring of GMPs and Food Safety related items.
  • Responsible for all product codes and labels that are utilized in the facility which includes the maintaining of all files and communication with corporate labeling division.
  • Responsible for any claims processing and tracking
  • Ensure company SOPs related to HACCP are correctly followed in order to guarantee the production of safe and clean products, ensure training is completed.
  • Oversee QA Supervisors and hourly QA technicians in all aspects of food safety and product quality for the fabrication area
  • Ensure audits, procedures and SOPs are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and modifications are made as necessary
  • Make decisions and direct production when non-routine events occur

Experience Required:

  • Previous HACCP experience in terms of developing, implementing, and modifying HAACP plans
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent, preferred College degree with background in Food Science/Microbiology
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in numerous areas in a meat processing facility.
  • Previous management experience in a manufacturing or production environment

Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work with managers at all levels of the organization, including government agencies
  • Ability to identify and correct issues as they arise, both technical and interpersonal
  • Knowledge and familiarity with regulatory requirements; working closely with both production groups and FSIS
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong leadership, decision making, organizational and planning skills
  • Familiarity of meat inspection regulations and general knowledge of plant operations
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills
  • HACCP Certified
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including some Saturdays
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures and stand/walk for extended periods of time
