POSITION SUMMARY:
The Street Hockey Trainer is responsible for designing and delivering high-quality Street Hockey clinics that support skill development, game understanding, and a love for the sport among participants. This role develops and implements high-level structured, age-appropriate curriculum, leads engaging training sessions, and creates a positive, inclusive learning environment for players of varying skill levels. The Street Hockey Trainer also evaluates participant progress, adapts programming to meet individual and group needs, and ensures alignment with organizational standards and youth development best practices. Must be available Wednesday evenings from 5:00-9:00pm.
This position requires active, face-to-face leadership within programs and may involve early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities based on program schedules.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and instruct Street Hockey lessons, ensuring engaging and age-appropriate instruction
- Develop and deliver structured weekly lesson plans aligned with program goals
- Maintain active supervision of all participants to ensure safety and engagement
- Enforce YMCA safety standards and respond appropriately to incidents and emergencies
- Follow all established emergency procedures and protocols
- Set up, organize, and break down equipment for classes and clinics
- Supervise and support volunteers assisting with programs
- Monitor proper use of facilities and equipment during program activities
- Integrate YMCA Character Development values into all interactions and instruction
- Maintain program areas in a clean, organized, and presentable condition
- Address and resolve member and parent questions or concerns in a professional manner
- Prepare and manage materials needed for classes, clinics, and activities
- Track and maintain accurate attendance and program records
- Deliver exceptional member service and foster positive relationships with participants and families
- Support program growth by promoting participation and encouraging member retention
- Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants
- Adhere to all YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids policies and procedures
Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of the YMCA and its mission-driven work.
COMPENSATION
$20.80 - $25.70 ; Part Time, Non Exempt (up to 25 hours/week)

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: A minimum of 5 year’s experience in Street Hockey including coaching, training, or high-level participation. Experience working with strongly youth preferred.
- Proven Expertise: Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong knowledge and understanding of Street Hockey rules, fundamentals, skills, and training techniques
- Mission-Driven Leadership: Strong leadership skills required. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within the first 60 days
- AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
- Blood Borne Pathogen training
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, in an echoing environment.
TRAVEL:
0-5% of local travel within the state of Michigan; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for educational conferences or training.
