Job Summary

The City of Norway is currently accepting applications for a full-time Accounting Clerk. Candidates are expected to possess knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable, payroll, customer service, and other essential duties. An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to be flexible are necessary, as candidates must also be willing to train and perform tasks in multiple areas as assigned or necessary. Compensation and benefits are pursuant to the union contract. Employment applications and full position descriptions can be found on the City of Norway website. The first review of applications will occur on May 25th, 2026, and may be filled thereafter. Starting pay is $21.80 per hour. $23.64 per hour after a six-month review. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs accounts payable duties as assigned by supervisor.

Performs accounts receivable duties as assigned by supervisor.

Performs payroll duties as assigned by supervisor, including, but not limited to, preparing and maintaining employee time and other personnel records for the department.

Receives, stamps, and distributes incoming mail, and processes outgoing mail.

Maintains and updates the city website and social media platforms.

Assists with City Clerk duties such as elections and other duties as directed.

Is first point of contact for customers at the service window.

Receives the public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens, and others, and refers them, when necessary, to appropriate people.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

May be required to provide backup to related clerical positions.

Schedules appointments; registers personnel for conferences and seminars; makes travel arrangements and itineraries.

Backup for Clerk in composing, typing, and editing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

A. Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing, accounting, data processing;

B. two (2) years of related college level training;

C. two years of related experience, or

D. any equivalent combination of education and experience, with additional experience substituting for the required college level training or a year for year basis.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A. Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

B. Skill in operating basic office equipment.

C. Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions; ability to work with angry or difficult customers.

Pay: $21.80 - $23.64 per hour
