Environmental Health and Safety Specialist I
Inside the Role The Safety & Environmental Coordinator supports plant-level EHS operations within a DTNA–Bosch joint venture facility, with emphasis on compliance, training administration, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. This salaried, entry-level role operates within a UAW collective bargaining agreement; success depends as much on building trust with union partners and hourly associates as it does on technical EHS competency.

Position offers a starting salary range of $65,000 - $83,000 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience

What You Drive at DTNA
Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Maintain and update Safety & Environmental documentation for EPA, OSHA, and state regulatory agencies; support Tier II and other annual reporting obligations
- Provide administrative support for the (M)SDS portal, compliance tracking systems, and environmental permit documentation; maintain OSHA 300/300A logs
- Support ISO 14001 environmental management system activities, compliance audits, and corrective action tracking
- Support incident and near-miss investigations: document findings, assist with root cause analysis, track corrective actions, and assist with emergency response planning and drills
- Implement Safety & Environmental program updates based on regulatory changes; lead and support environmental CI activities
Training Administration
- Schedule and coordinate safety/environmental training; track attendance and completion in training database/matrix; support EHS onboarding for new employees
- Develop and update RA, JHAs, JESs, and Work Station Instructions in collaboration with a cross functional team including supervisors and hourly associates
UAW Partnership & Joint Health and Safety Committee
- Actively participate in the joint UAW–Management Health & Safety Meetings: scheduling, agenda preparation, and documentation
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with UAW stewards, and hourly associates; coordinate joint safety walk-throughs and hazard identification activities
- Support safety initiatives consistent with the CBA, understand and respect the boundary between salaried coordination and bargaining unit work
- Serve as a day-to-day safety resource for hourly associates, escalating appropriately; communicate EHS updates to the workforce in collaboration with union representatives
General
- Use computer systems to access EHS data, drawings, bills of materials, and specification sheets; perform assigned tasks within deadlines; other duties as assigned
Knowledge You Should Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field or Associate’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field and 2 years of demonstrated EHS experience in a manufacturing or distribution center environment or 4 years of demonstrated EHS experience in a manufacturing or distribution center environment.
- Foundational knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards and EPA/environmental compliance requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn EHS management systems and training databases
- Strong oral and written communication skills, credible with hourly associates, union representatives, and plant management
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple compliance deadlines; ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries
- Ability to walk/stand on concrete for multiple hours, lift up to 30 lbs, and work in an active manufacturing environment; ability to work overtime when needed
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification and/or HAZWOPER training
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 or ISO 45001 management system frameworks
- Previous EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in a UAW-represented facility
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) designation or active pursuit; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
