Primary Purpose
The Emotional Support Specialist will provide support to the Boys & Girls Club with the skills, experience and specific responsibilities for effecting positive behavioral change in redirecting members with distractive and disruptive behaviors; and complying with mandated policies, procedures and regulations.
Essential Duties
Assists members and staff to improve member behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and secure environment dedicated to academic success, healthy lifestyles and character & citizenship.
Assists in developing procedures and training materials for Club staff involved with members needing emotional support for the purpose of enhancing programs for members and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in trauma informed techniques and other topics for the purpose of helping staff develop skills and establish effective relationships with socially and/or emotionally challenged members.
Confers with staff, members and families and other volunteers for the purpose of working collaboratively with members identified with high-risk behaviors.
Partners with outside resources that support wrap around services for members and families in providing a quality, trauma informed environment.
Coordinates with Club staff regarding members identified as being disruptive, for the purpose of developing individualized plans by understanding the causes of behavior and creating interventions to ensure success within the Club.
Instructs members individually and in small groups (e.g. appropriate behavior, problem solving, conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and social behaviors) for the purpose of providing members with coping skills.
Maintains, organizes, and develops manual and electronic files (e.g. monthly disciplinary reports, guidelines, procedures, antidotal notes,) for the purpose of analyzing and evaluating trauma informed program.
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of professional development required to perform assigned duties and remain knowledgeable with trauma informed programming.
Responds to staff and volunteer requests for assistance with disruptive member behaviors.
Major Duties
Provides behavioral support and training to staff, members, and volunteers. Responsible for the delivery of trauma informed environment that includes evidence-based strategies.
Conducts ongoing program assessments, implements and monitor behavior intervention plans.
Plans and supports the implementation of a well-rounded trauma informed program to include early intervention, predictability and structure, functional analysis of behaviors, development of behavior intervention plans and systematic data monitoring.
Trains and coaches staff in behavioral strategies around conflict and crisis management, anger control and goal setting.
Provides crisis response and management for students who are experiencing significant behavioral and emotional challenges.
Keeps appropriate records and inform administration and staff of member or family plans.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the trauma informed environment and organization as a whole.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:
A minimum of two (2) years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising youth programs and facilities.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Knowledge of and experience with youth development.
Demonstrate the ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
Demonstrate the ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
Demonstrate the ability to deal with the general public.
Demonstrate the ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
Demonstrate the ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
Ability to perform technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing conditions.
Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include, but are not be limited to: effective listening, instructional techniques, interpersonal aptitude, monitoring activities, problem solving and record keeping.
HOURS: 5 hours per day during school year (1PM-6PM)
8 hours per day during summer and full days (7AM-3PM)PTO:
Employees are eligible for Personal Time Off (PTO) after 1 year of employment. The employee's PTO after one year of employment will be 24 hours to use in that calendar year. Any unused PTO will be forfeited at the end of the calendar year -- it is not eligible for rollover.
INSURANCE BENEFITS:
Employees are eligible for dental, and vision benefits effective the 1st of the month following the hire date. BG Club will pay 100% of Dental, Vision and Life Insurance for employees only, Additional coverage, vision and dental will be paid by the employee if the employee chooses to add dependent coverage.
401K BENEFITS:
A 401(K) Safe Harbor Retirement Plan is available on the 1st day of the month after 1 year of employment and has accomplished 1,000 hours withing the year of service (based on initial start date with BGCD). At that time, BGCD will contribute 3% of gross wages to the company's 401K plan and the employee may also elect to contribute to their 401(K) and will be vested.
