Overview:
The Machinist will set up and operate conventional and numerical control machines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques
• Ability to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
• Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments
• Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools
• Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs
• Any additional duties assigned by management

Qualifications & Experience:
Any combination of education and/or experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 5+ years of direct field experience or equivalent
