Toolroom Die Maintenance Supervisor

It’s 6:55 AM in Grand Rapids, MI. You stroll through the toolroom, coffee in hand, scanning the overnight notes. A die from the cold chamber die cast cell needs attention—surface wear on a critical feature. You gather your team, assign the assessment, and within minutes you’re reviewing prints, confirming tolerances, and planning the repair path. By mid-morning, you’re collaborating with engineering to address a recurring issue, and after lunch, you’re updating the repair log and coaching a new technician on best practices. It’s a day driven by precision, teamwork, and the satisfaction of getting production back to peak performance.
What You’ll Lead
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of die repair technicians, setting clear expectations and providing hands-on guidance.
- Own the end-to-end die repair workflow—assessment, planning, execution, verification—and uphold high quality standards.
- Perform routine inspections of dies and completed work to capture improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with engineering and production to troubleshoot die-related concerns and prevent repeat issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation for repairs, preventive maintenance, and tooling/material inventory.
- Reinforce and model safety protocols to meet and exceed industry and site requirements.
- Onboard and train new team members, promoting continuous learning and cross-training.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical certification or related degree is a plus.
- Demonstrated die repair experience and 3+ years leading or supervising a team.
- Background in high pressure die casting and high-production machining is beneficial.
- Deep familiarity with die repair methods, tools, and materials.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to organize, motivate, and hold standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Sharp troubleshooting skills and an eye for detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Commitment to quality and a safety-first mindset.
