Senior Accountant

Department: Accounting

Reports to: Director of Accounting & Finance

Employment Status Classification: Full Time, Exempt

Job Description Summary:

The Senior Accountant supervises other accounting team members. The Senior Accountant is also responsible for the preparation and monitoring of financial activities, reporting and assisting with audits.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise other accounting team members
  • Record monthly bank activity
  • Preparation of journal entries, workpapers and account reconciliations
  • Review workpapers and audit schedules prepared by Accounting Specialist
  • Back up for Accounts Receivable (deposits, invoicing, misc. grants, etc.)
  • Support of other departments with financial requests
  • Record bi-weekly payroll
  • Assist with the preparation for audits
  • Assist with other accounting related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Supervisory experience is required
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience (not-for-profit and/or grant accounting preferred)
  • A willingness to learn, grow and cross train within the accounting department.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
  • In-depth knowledge of Excel is required
  • Experience with federal grants is a plus
  • Understanding of tax is a plus
  • Proficiency in Blackbaud/Financial Edge preferred

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Primary functions of this job are sedentary and often requires the ability to be active, including walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs and lifting; this position includes in-office work and remote work (from home).
