Position Overview

This position is responsible for assessing the needs of each surgical patient before and during procedures, ensuring patient safety throughout the process. The Registered Nurse (RN) develops individualized care plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care during surgical procedures. This role provides leadership to the operating room (OR) team and maintains effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

• Patient Assessment & Care Planning (40%): Assess the needs of surgical patients and develop tailored care plans. Implement and evaluate the plan of care during procedures, making adjustments as necessary to prioritize patient safety.
• Supervision of OR Activities (30%): Oversee activities in the operating room. Anticipate and coordinate any schedule changes. Assemble necessary equipment and supplies. Assist anesthesia as required and monitor the sterile field.
• Communication (20%): Facilitate communication with patients, families, physicians, the OR team, supervisors, managers, and ancillary departments.
• Staff Development (10%): Engage in professional development by attending in-services, educational meetings, and staff gatherings for growth and leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.
• Open heart surgery experience is required.
• Experience with general, neuro, and orthopedic cases is highly preferred.
• Recent travel work history is highly preferred.
• Current skills checklist, pertinent to CVOR, is required.
• Two supervisory reference forms, completed within the last two years.
• Active Michigan nursing license is required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Current American Heart Association ACLS certification.

Contract Details

This position guarantees 36 hours per week with a contract lasting 91 days. Call duties are necessary on all days worked and weekends, and will only be required during scheduled cases, which occur infrequently.
