Interlochen Arts Group seeks an experienced Health Services Director to lead student health services for its two core educational programs: Interlochen Arts Camp, serving approximately 3,500 students in grades 3-12, and Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation's premiere fine arts boarding high school with an enrollment of approximately 575. The Director of Health Services is a year-round position that provides administrative and clinical leadership for the health services department, and also guides institutional medical policies, developing and implementing excellent and relevant standards of care. The Director leads all daily operations of student health services on a year-round basis.
The Director plays a leadership role in the development and implementation of institutional health and wellness programs and policies. Serving nearly 3,500 students and 500 non-seasonal employees, the Director provides strong leadership, planning, organizational and communication skills in a comprehensive range of health and wellness services throughout the year.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of progressive administrative and clinical leadership in a health services setting. They will be Registered Nurses or Nurse Practitioners with a Master's Degree in Nursing. Medical Doctors with administrative leadership are also encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties:
- Participate as an integral member of the leadership team of a K-12 school and camp setting.
- Provide strong leadership, planning and organizational skills in a comprehensive range of health and wellness services throughout the year.
- Provide leadership for the health services department and institutional medical policies, develop and implement standards of care relevant to Camp and Academy students and personnel, and oversee all student health service operations year-round.
- Recruit, hire, and schedule appropriate FTE within Health Services (nurses, medical assistants, health care providers, clerical support)
- Provide training, supervision, evaluation, and professional development for all health services staff.
- Provide direct clinical support to nursing and other clinical staff caring for students.
- Build team culture among health services staff and align with Interlochen values.
- As the chief medical officer, you will work with the Student Affairs, Education Programs, and Human and Institutional Resources departments to advise on, develop, and manage institutional health-related issues.
- Supervise personnel and manage internal and external services related to the physical health of students (3,500 summer, 575 September to May)
- Retain quality personnel with effective hiring, training, and evaluation programs.
- Supervise one clinic during the academic year (September through May) and manage three clinics during the summer camp season.
- Provide leadership and oversight for student medication policies and processes.
- Secure, supervise, and work closely with contracted healthcare providers, as they see students during clinic hours and provide healthcare services for students.
- Work closely with behavioral health counselors and deans of students concerning student social/emotional and behavioral concerns.
- Provide expertise and share in the development and implementation of student health, wellness, and nutritional policies and programs.
- Communicate with parents, faculty, and staff as needed regarding health-related matters.
- Maintain records for all Interlochen students, and for all employee on-the-job injuries.
- Assist Human Resources in monitoring employee compliance with State of Michigan requirements, including rules and policies related to bloodborne pathogens, TB testing, HIPAA, etc.
- Manage the medical and health issues related to institutional emergency and preparedness plans.
- Liaison with local healthcare personnel and agencies to provide additional resources and support for campus health and wellness programming.
- Keep informed about regional and national health issues that could affect the campus, and work with county and state agencies when dealing with emergent health concerns.

- Minimum requirements: State of Michigan Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing. Medical Doctors with administrative leadership are also encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in this field that show evidence of success and progression of responsibility for at least 5 years. Nurse manager, charge nurse, and hospital administration experience will be beneficial, but not required.
- Experience addressing the emotional, developmental, and physical health needs of school-aged children will be beneficial, but is not required.
- Proven management, administrative and/or supervision experience and a strong desire to serve in an administrative role.
- Must possess the interest and ability to create a vision for student health and wellness for a diverse student body
- Effective written and oral communication, organizational and planning skills; capable of making good choices among many competing demands for time, staff, and resources.
- Capacity for, and experience with handling difficult situations and crises.
- Physical and emotional stamina are necessary in this dynamic environment of continuous operation.
- Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate respect for cultural, ethnic, spiritual, and linguistic diversity and values, including differences in personal goals, lifestyle choices, and varying family backgrounds and histories.
