The CT Technologist (RRT) expertly handles specialized technical duties, utilizing their skills to set up advanced computed tomography equipment, position patients with precision, and acquire high-quality cross-sectional diagnostic images of internal body structures. This vital role is essential for the detection, diagnosis, and evaluation of various pathologies. Our technologists consistently provide exceptional computed tomography service coverage beyond normal business hours, including weekends and holidays, ensuring patient care remains uncompromised.
Key responsibilities include the production of top-tier radiographic images through precise positioning and optimal technical factors. The technologist operates CT scanners, power injectors, and post-processing equipment with proficiency, adjusting protocols as necessary to cater to individual patient needs. They critically evaluate completed procedures to ensure they meet the high standards of diagnostic quality.
Additionally, they perform general radiography exams when required, maintaining a repeat rate at or below the national standard. With comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic imaging terminology and procedures, our technologists demonstrate expertise in all front desk and file room operations.
Effective communication is paramount; they promptly inform patients of any delays and thoroughly explain procedures to ensure patient comfort. The technologist is skilled in gathering relevant patient history and preparing patients effectively for examinations.
Encouragement of research at the technologist level is a key aspect of this role, as is staying updated with new procedures and examinations in diagnostic imaging practice. The technologist selects the appropriate equipment and sets it up based on specific procedural protocols, specifications, and standards.
Evaluating the technical quality of images is a critical function, alongside the ability to record, archive, retrieve, compile, and calculate necessary data. They confidently assist radiologists during invasive procedures such as biopsies and abscess drainages, positioning patients based on anatomy while adhering to age-specific guidelines.
Practicing thorough patient identification is standard, and the technologist acquires complete and pertinent patient histories, effectively conveying all necessary information to the radiologist. They collaborate with radiologists to ensure optimal patient care and adhere to established protocols.
Qualifications for this role include American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration — a requirement, along with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography. Candidates must possess a two-year allied health degree and a minimum of two years of current, full-time experience in both CT and x-ray within a hospital or Emergency Department setting.
