Automotive APQP & Quality Assurance Engineer
Day in the life
You’re the quality voice from launch through high-volume production. In the morning, you review PPAP submissions and warranty trends in customer portals. Midday, you’re on the floor validating a control plan, programming measurement equipment, and training operators on the latest work instructions. In the afternoon, you lead an 8D with cross‑functional partners, close out MRB actions, and brief a customer on corrective actions and timing. Every step aligns with our internal quality and environmental management systems and customer-specific standards.
What you’ll own
- Champion new product launches and engineering changes, identifying risks early and building prevention into processes.
- Maintain complete, accurate quality records in customer portals and internal systems (PPAP packages, rejections, engineering change documentation, warranty issues, supplier PPAPs, and supplier corrective actions).
- Lead creation of PFMEAs, control plans, and process flow diagrams with Program Management and launch teams.
- Translate engineering drawings/specifications into clear inspection requirements within the quality system.
- Program and support measurement and test equipment to assure reliable data.
- Co-develop and deploy work instructions with Engineering and Production, covering process steps, gauging methods, and product handling.
- Train plant and office personnel on procedures and QMS expectations.
- Drive corrective actions end‑to‑end—initiation, root cause (5‑Why, 8D, Fishbone), implementation, verification, and closure—within customer and internal systems; communicate outcomes to customers and leadership.
- Engage directly with customers and suppliers for launch support, audits, on‑site visits, and corrective action follow‑up.
- Own nonconformance disposition, participate in MRB, and ensure documentation and closure.
- Lead continuous improvement using structured methods and statistics (DOE, Red X).
- Analyze performance data and drive improvements across customer, supplier, and internal processes.
- Support risk‑based FMEA, mistake‑proofing reviews, and process optimization with Engineering and Production.
- Advance supplier performance: validate corrective actions, manage PPAP requests and supplier changes, conduct supplier audits, and secure timely responses.
- Participate in customer, internal, surveillance, supplier, and QMS/EMS audits (including CQI requirements).
- Serve as a primary customer contact and a strong collaborator across departments and organizations.
- Mentor colleagues across functions on quality tools and best practices.
- Maintain the computerized quality system, including customer/supplier concerns and internal corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to internal systems, procedures, and customer-specific requirements at all times.
- Execute responsibilities in alignment with applicable quality and environmental management system standards and customer requirements.
