Job Summary:
The Funeral Director Assistant provides essential support to Funeral Directors in organizing and delivering funeral, memorial, and cremation services. This role involves a combination of hands-on assistance, lining up processions in parking lots, transporting flowers and other items to and from funeral services. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a sensitive and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist funeral directors with coordinating funeral and memorial services
- Prepare visitation rooms, chapels, and service areas before and after services
- Support the transfer and care of the deceased in accordance with legal and ethical standards
- Drive funeral vehicles, including hearses and family cars, as needed
- Greet and assist families and visitors, providing a calm and supportive presence
- Lining up cars for funeral processions
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the funeral home and vehicles
- Assist with floral arrangements, casket placement, and service setup
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle emotionally sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
- Physical ability to lift and move equipment or assist with transfers
- Able to be outside for extended periods of time in ALL weather conditions
- This is an on-call position and MUST be available during the daytime, hours will vary
Work Environment:
This position is based in a funeral home setting and may involve exposure to emotionally difficult situations. The role requires maintaining a respectful demeanor at all times and adhering to strict health, safety, and confidentiality standards.
