Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
Location: Big Rapids, Michigan

A school district in Big Rapids, MI is working with ProCare Therapy to fill a full-time Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) role for the 20252026 academic year. This is an on-site opportunity supporting students in general and special education classrooms across all grade levels (K-12).

Role Summary:

The interpreter will work directly with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating communication between the student, their peers, and school staff. Assignments may vary depending on student needs and grade levels. The role follows the traditional school calendar.

Candidate Requirements:

• Active Michigan Sign Language Interpreter License or appropriate educational interpreter endorsement

• A valid EIPA score

• Comfortable working with students of varying age groups and communication needs

• Prior school-based experience is a plus, but not mandatory

Key Duties:

• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa in classroom and school settings

• Support students during academic instruction, group activities, and one-on-one interactions

• Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to ensure effective communication access

• Comply with IEP goals and accommodations

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards
